Decolonising and Indigenous Research Methodologies - Workshop series

In this extended guided reading programme, students are offered the chance to discuss a range of readings in Indigenous and Decolonizing Research Methodologies with BIPoC scholars in the UK and at the Faculty of Native Studies, Univeristy of Alberta. Each fortnightly online session will be led by a discussant (see list below) who works actively on and with methodological questions around decolonization and the humanities. Students will be required to read two to three short pieces for each session (to be distributed) and to come prepared to discuss their responses, and reflect on their relevance to their own work. Each week our expert discussant will join us to frame the specific texts under discussion; to help students to unpick both what is critical and unspoken in those texts; and to workshop possibilities with students in relation to their own methodological approaches.

The series will be facilitated by Prof David Stirrup (d.f.stirrup@kent.ac.uk) and Dr Padraig Kirwan (P.Kirwan@gold.ac.uk) who will meet with students individually to discuss their projects in relation to the ethical frameworks that the programme will develop. Reading materials will be distributed in advance. If Covid conditions permit, the cohort will meet at the British Library for a debrief at the end of the series.

Please don’t hesitate to contact either David or Padraig with any questions.
