Come and join us in the beautiful setting of Frome for a weekend of practical engagement with material processes – try your hand at wood engraving and linocut and network with your peers in an informal setting.

We invite research students across the CHASE consortium who work with material artefacts or who are interested in materiality to join us on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th November for a printmaking course with master printmaker Chris Pig at Black Pig Printmaking Studio, Frome.

Students will have the opportunity to design and print a personal book plate. Gain an understanding of material processes and try the techniques for yourself guided by an experts!

Material Witness is an interdisciplinary training programme for the interrogation of physical objects in the digital age by humanities researchers. Established by Professor Alixe Bovey and led by The Courtauld, it is the longest running CHASE training programme.

Chris Pig has been an artist printmaker for 40 years. After studying his MA in Barcelona with Winchester School of Art, he became principal lecturer in Printmaking at City and Islington College for seven years. He left to set up his own studio in Córdoba where he lived for six years before returning to London and working at East London Printmakers. He now lives in Frome with his family where he is director of Black Pig Printmaking Studio.

He has work in public and private collections throughout the world including Guangdong Museum of Art China, Douro Museum of Printmaking Portugal, Pallant House Chichester, the Ashmolean Museum Oxford, the British Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
