True North Writing Essentials:Getting Published – How to Write a Paper

Training Organisation: True North

Contact: Marina Benjamin

Delivery: Online

Programme Description:

Writing research papers as a doctoral student can be daunting. This half-day workshop aims to make the process of identifying what might work as a paper, as well as how to write it, that little bit easier.
Looking closely at examples, we will identify what gives a paper star quality – how is it structured, how does it carry the argument and contribution the author is making to the field? Then, equipped with a better understanding of the submission and revision process, you will identify areas of your own research which demonstrate originality and significance before learning how to package your material into a form that is enticing to editors.

Learning Outcomes:

• Learn how to write a research article or journal paper that is strong on originality,
significance and rigour.
• Evaluate published papers to identify their strengths and weaknesses.
• Tailor your article or paper towards the requirements of your target publication.
• Understand the review and revision process.
