Announcing CHASE Network’s First Student Podcast Challenge
The CHASE Network’s Student Podcast Challenge invites students from across CHASE (Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-east England) research universities to create a podcast and compete for a chance to win a scholarship, receive mentoring, and other benefits.
Opening the 29th January, and closing the 29th March, CHASE Network’s Student Podcast Challenge invites students from across the university to create a podcast, and have their podcast developed and promoted. The challenge aims to champion underrepresented student voices, especially the voices of young adults trying to better understand who they are and where they come from. This initiative aims to provide students with valuable skills and experience, including public and peer-to-peer engagement and professional development.
The first-place winner will receive a £600 grand-prize scholarship, with three runners-up receiving £200 per project. All four winners will receive training materials and support, a complimentary subscription to the hosting provider, ART19, and the opportunity to have your voice, your story, reach other students and beyond.
Potential applicants are encouraged to review the guidelines and related resources below. Please send any questions to UEA’s CHASE EDI Ambassador and the Challenge’s creator, Megan Bradshaw (m.bradshaw@uea.ac.uk).
The Rules

Students should be current PGR students, or, current undergraduate students matriculating into a PGR program at a CHASE university in 2024.
Entrants should be primarily based in the UK.
Entries open on the 29th January, 2024 and close 29th March, 2024.
Entry requirements
Submissions can be an excerpt or excerpts from a longer podcast, as long as you demonstrate thoughtfulness about how you are using time.
Students can use any podcast format or genre. Popular podcast formats include interviews, conversations, nonfiction storytelling and fiction storytelling. Popular genres include comedy, true crime, news documentary, history, radio theater and sports. The Challenge aims to surface voices from the podcast’s hosts, or their subjects, that touch upon the lived experiences of underrepresented students and/or young people today.
Students must have a plan to create at least five podcast episodes.
Audio samples should be 5 minutes or less. (Just to be very clear, 5:01 is longer than five minutes.)
Multiple creators or hosts are allowed. Students create the podcast by themselves or with a group, but can only submit one entry. Prize money will be split amongst winners.
Students must use appropriate language. We advise: “Assume your listeners are readers of your university’s student newspaper.”
Audio samples must use non-copyrighted sound effects or music.
